How to Add Interactive Labs to Moodle

To add interactive labs to Moodle, generate a lab in EngagedLab, export a SCORM 1.2 or SCORM 2004 package, then upload it as a SCORM activity in your Moodle course. Learner progress and scores persist through cmi.suspend_data, and completion or grades flow back to the Moodle gradebook automatically.

Free for 4 labs/week. Premium from £14.99/month.

Supported standards in Moodle

SCORM export is live today. LTI 1.3 with OIDC login and Assignment & Grade Services (AGS) is built and awaiting institution-specific validation before it goes live in your Moodle tenancy.

Importing an EngagedLab lab into Moodle

  1. Step 1

Export the SCORM package from EngagedLab

Open your finished lab and choose Export → SCORM. Pick SCORM 1.2 for maximum compatibility or SCORM 2004 for richer sequencing. You receive a single self-contained .zip with the Blackboard runtime engine embedded, so it runs the same in any conformant player.

  2. Step 2

Upload it as a SCORM activity in Moodle

In your course, turn editing on, then Add an activity or resource → SCORM package. Upload the .zip, set the display, attempt, and completion options, and save. Moodle unpacks the package and serves it inside the course.

  3. Step 3

    Learner state persists via cmi.suspend_data

As learners work through cards, quizzes, and challenges, the package writes progress and answers to cmi.suspend_data. Learners can close the tab and resume exactly where they left off — the package is offline-capable once loaded.

  4. Step 4

Grades flow back to the gradebook

On completion the package reports cmi.core.lesson_status and the score to Moodle, populating the gradebook entry automatically. Where your institution has completed LTI 1.3 validation, AGS can post grades live without re-uploading packages.

Troubleshooting Moodle SCORM tracking

Moodle SCORM not tracking completion — how do I fix it?

Open the SCORM activity settings and set completion tracking to require a status or a minimum grade. EngagedLab packages report cmi.core.lesson_status = completed (or passed) at the end of a lab, so Moodle marks the activity complete once your chosen condition is met. If completion still does not register, confirm the learner reached the final section and that pop-up blocking is not closing the SCORM window early.

Why is my SCORM score not showing in the Moodle gradebook?

Check the SCORM activity grading method (Highest, Average, First, or Last attempt) and that the grade is set to report the SCORM score rather than attempts. EngagedLab reports a normalised score on completion; Moodle maps that into the gradebook column once at least one full attempt is submitted.

Do EngagedLab SCORM packages work offline in Moodle?

Yes. Once the package has loaded, the interactive lab runs client-side and stores state in cmi.suspend_data, so brief connectivity drops do not lose a learner’s progress. Final tracking data is written back to Moodle when the connection is available and the attempt is committed.
