How to Add Interactive Labs to Brightspace

To add interactive labs to Brightspace (D2L), export a SCORM 1.2 or SCORM 2004 package from EngagedLab and upload it as SCORM content in your course. Brightspace-compatible packages persist learner state through cmi.suspend_data, and completion and scores can be tracked in the gradebook, with LTI 1.3 available for direct launch and grade passback.

Free for 4 labs/week. Premium from £14.99/month.

Supported standards in Brightspace

SCORM export is live today. LTI 1.3 with OIDC login and Assignment & Grade Services (AGS) is built and awaiting institution-specific validation before it goes live in your Brightspace tenancy.

Importing an EngagedLab lab into Brightspace

  1. Step 1

Export the SCORM package from EngagedLab

Open your finished lab and choose Export → SCORM. Brightspace is compatible with both SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004; either export is a single self-contained .zip with the Blackboard runtime engine embedded.

  2. Step 2

Upload it as SCORM content in Brightspace

In your course, use Content → Add Existing → SCORM (or Course Admin → Import/Export/Copy Components → SCORM) to upload the .zip. Brightspace processes the package and adds it as a content topic you can associate with a grade item.

  3. Step 3

    Learner state persists via cmi.suspend_data

As learners progress, the package writes answers and position to cmi.suspend_data so a lab can be paused and resumed. Packages are offline-capable once loaded, re-syncing tracking data when connectivity returns.

  4. Step 4

Completion and scores reach the gradebook

Associate the SCORM topic with a Brightspace grade item so completion status and score are recorded. Where LTI 1.3 validation is complete for your organisation, launch and AGS grade passback avoid re-uploading packages.

Troubleshooting Brightspace SCORM tracking

Brightspace (D2L) SCORM not recording completion — how do I fix it?

Make sure the SCORM topic is linked to a grade item and that completion tracking for the topic is set to the SCORM status rather than "visited". EngagedLab reports cmi.core.lesson_status = completed at the end of a lab, so learners must reach the final section for Brightspace to record completion.

Does EngagedLab support SCORM 2004 in Brightspace?

Yes. EngagedLab exports both SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004 (3rd/4th Edition), and both are compatible with Brightspace’s SCORM support. SCORM 2004 adds richer sequencing and mastery rollup; choose it when you want per-objective tracking, or SCORM 1.2 for the simplest, most portable option.

How does a learner resume a lab in Brightspace?

The package stores each learner’s answers and position in cmi.suspend_data, so relaunching the SCORM topic returns them to where they left off, subject to the topic’s attempt configuration.
