How to Add Interactive Labs to Blackboard

To add interactive labs to Blackboard, export a SCORM 1.2 package from EngagedLab and upload it as content in your Blackboard course. EngagedLab ships a Blackboard-optimised runtime engine, so learner state persists through cmi.suspend_data and scores post to the Grade Centre via SCORM tracking or LTI 1.3 AGS grade passback.

Free for 4 labs/week. Premium from £14.99/month.

Supported standards in Blackboard

SCORM export is live today. LTI 1.3 with OIDC login and Assignment & Grade Services (AGS) is built and awaiting institution-specific validation before it goes live in your Blackboard tenancy.

Importing an EngagedLab lab into Blackboard

  1. Step 1

Export the SCORM package from EngagedLab

Open your finished lab and choose Export → SCORM. Blackboard works best with SCORM 1.2; EngagedLab embeds a Blackboard-optimised runtime engine tuned for the Grade Centre. You receive a single self-contained .zip.

  2. Step 2

Upload it as SCORM content in Blackboard

In your course, open the content area, then Build Content → SCORM package (or use the Content Market SCORM tool on newer builds). Upload the .zip, set grading and availability options, and submit. Blackboard imports the package as a graded item.

  3. Step 3

    Learner state persists via cmi.suspend_data

As learners progress, the Blackboard engine writes answers and position to cmi.suspend_data so a lab can be paused and resumed. Packages are offline-capable once loaded, which suits intermittent campus connectivity.

  4. Step 4

Scores post to the Grade Centre

On completion the package reports lesson status and score, and Blackboard records the result against the graded item in the Grade Centre. Where LTI 1.3 validation is complete for your tenancy, AGS can post grades directly.

Troubleshooting Blackboard SCORM tracking

My Blackboard SCORM package is not showing a grade in the Grade Centre — why?

Confirm the SCORM item was added as a graded item and that its grade column is set to display the SCORM score rather than attempt count. EngagedLab reports a score at completion; if learners exit before the final section, Blackboard has no completed attempt to grade. Re-open the item settings and ensure "Grade SCOs" (or the equivalent scoring option) is enabled.

Which SCORM version should I use for Blackboard?

Use SCORM 1.2. EngagedLab embeds a Blackboard-optimised runtime engine that maps completion and scoring cleanly onto the Grade Centre, and SCORM 1.2 is the most broadly reliable across Blackboard Learn versions. SCORM 2004 packages ship the same engine and are compatible where your instance is configured for them.

Can learners pause and resume a lab in Blackboard?

Yes. The Blackboard engine stores each learner’s answers and position in cmi.suspend_data, so a learner can leave a lab and return to the same point on their next launch, subject to your item’s attempt settings.
